Cayuga County Legislator Stephanie DeVito, who was elected to represent the 10th district in 2023, has resigned.
DeVito, D-Auburn, confirmed in an interview with 人兽性交 that she submitted her resignation on Wednesday.
"I accepted a career opportunity outside of my district and will be relocating," she said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to have served in the role and appreciate the chance to have contributed and advocated for the work of the people of Cayuga County. I just want to thank everyone for their support and wish everyone the best of luck."
DeVito resigned three months after she stepped away from her legislative committee assignments due to her professional obligations. She is the office manager at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Syracuse.

In March, DeVito was one of four legislators who left the Democratic caucus. With no caucus or committee obligations, DeVito's lone task was to attend the full Cayuga County Legislature meetings. However, she missed the special meeting held on April 2 and the regular meeting on April 22.
DeVito was the executive director of the Auburn Downtown Business Improvement District when she decided to run for county Legislature in 2023. She was elected to represent the 10th district, which includes the southeastern neighborhoods in the city.
She resigned from the Business Improvement District in March 2024 amid an investigation聽that she dismissed as a "witch hunt." She denied any wrongdoing.
DeVito was active in the Auburn area and served on multiple boards, such as the Auburn YMCA-WEIU, Booker T. Washington Community Center and the United Way of Cayuga County. She was also a longtime member of the city of Auburn's Zoning Board of Appeals. She resigned from the zoning board in September and no longer serves on the other community boards.
DeVito's resignation leaves the Cayuga County Legislature with 10 members. A special election will likely be held this year to fill the vacancy. The Legislature could also appoint someone to fill the seat until the election. At the time of her resignation, DeVito had more than 2 1/2 years remaining in her term that expires at the end of 2027.
The last county legislator to resign was Charlie Ripley, who stepped down in September 2020 after being appointed Summerhill town supervisor. The Legislature appointed Mark Strong to serve the remainder of Ripley's term. Strong, R-Moravia, won a two-year term in 2021 and was reelected to a four-year term in 2023.
DeVito is the second county elected official to resign this year. Cayuga County Clerk Brian Scanlan stepped down in March.
