Carol C. Shamon passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025. Carol was born on February 20, 1947 and was the only child of Frederick C. Campbell and Margaret Doyle. She graduated from East High School in 1965 and earned her BA and Master's degrees in Education from SUNY Oswego. She was a lifelong resident of Auburn.
Teaching was her greatest passion and she relished in teaching children how to read. Carol had an outstanding teaching career with the majority of her service dedicated to her students at Genesee Elementary. Her classrooms were filled with a collection of her favorite books and adorned crafts to keep her young students engaged. She would follow her students in their future pursuits and was so proud to speak to their accomplishments.
During her retirement, Carol enjoyed golfing, spending time at the lake, gardening, cooking and traveling. Her trips to California and Ireland were a highlight. She loved cheering on her beloved Villanova Wildcats with Michael and Tom every basketball season. Carol was also an active member of St. Mary's parish.
Carol was an outstanding cook after having spent time as a young woman working at her father's diner, Campbell's Sandwich Shop. She perfected her father's Texas Hot Sauce and chili recipes over the years, while creating new recipes of her own that were enjoyed and became favorites of many.
She never missed a dinner out, a good bottle of wine or a Margarita.
Carol is survived by her daughter Meghan Shamon Pariso and her husband James of Walnut Creek, CA,; her two grandsons, William and Bennett Pariso; her son Michael C. Shamon of Auburn, NY; nieces Catherine Shamon Epstein and her family of Chatham, NJ; Mary C. Shamon of New York, NY; brother-in-law, George J. Shamon, plus many cherished friends and neighbors. Carol was predeceased by her former husband Thomas J. Shamon.
Carol's warmth, beautiful smile, infectious laugh and generous spirit will be treasured by all those who knew and loved her. She will be missed.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at The Commons of St. Anthony for their care and support the last three years.
Calling hours will be Friday, May 2, 2025 from 4-7 pm at Pettigrass Funeral Home. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's Church on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10:30 AM.
