Nestled between houses along Burt Avenue is a small, nondescript storefront with a blank sign hanging above the door. Through the front windows is a neatly kept checkout counter, empty coolers and a single table and two chairs. To a passerby the place looks closed鈥 but it's not.
What used to be Maggie's Pies is now Hann's Homemade, a custom bake shop owned by Hannah Cartwright. She opened it in February 2021.
Cartwright is a self-taught sweets artisan who learned to bake as a young girl with her grandmother. Decorating became her passion. Like most artists she prefers to work alone, locked away in the backroom from morning to night making her beautifully designed cakes, cupcakes and sugar cookies.
A dozen cookies can take up to four hours, from baking to boxing. Everything she produces is custom-made and personalized to her customer's desire when it's ready for pickup.
鈥淚 love what I do and take pride in how hard I work. It's not just a job," Cartwright told 人兽性交.
鈥淚 bring a lot of people joy even though it's just a cake or cookie. That, to me, is what makes it worth it. There's not enough of that in the world.鈥
A small-town girl from Cato, Cartwright chose to open her shop in a quiet residential neighborhood rather than a noisy and congested business district like Grant Avenue.
鈥淚t feels like home,鈥 she said.
Cartwright would like to expand her business to utilize the storefront for coffee and stocked baked goods, but has yet to find the right person to run that side of the business for her.
It's not about the money, she said, but the satisfaction she gets when a customer tells her that her product looks good 鈥 and also tastes good.
鈥淔ood is my love language and I want it to be enjoyed," she said, "and when I hear that from people it means a lot.鈥
