Janet A. Miller
OWASCO, NY - Janet A. Miller, 89, of Owasco, NY and Juno Beach, FL passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025 in Rochester, NY. Janet was born in East Syracuse to the late Mary (Gorman) "Eileen" and Frank Hirsh and was a 1953 graduate of East Syracuse High School.
She married Harold Miller in 1955, and they moved to Owasco in 1966, where she resided for the rest of her life. Janet was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, FISH (Friends In Service Helping) as well as offering her time and talents to countless other causes in the community. Whether comforting those in need, or simply showing up wherever there was a gap to fill, she lived by the belief that true happiness comes from service to others.
Music was one of Janet's greatest joys. She was an organist at Sacred Heart Church for many years, offering her talent to lift hearts and connect souls. Janet also worked part-time for Modular Comfort Systems, the family business, for 20 years. Janet loved playing bridge with her friends, swimming in beautiful Owasco Lake and spending many summer afternoons entertaining on her deck. Yet among all her many interests and accomplishments, her greatest pride was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. It was in these roles that her heart found its fullest expression. She cherished her family with an unmatched devotion - celebrating every milestone, offering unwavering support, and surrounding her loved ones with unconditional love and encouragement.
Janet's optimism was infectious. Even in challenging times, she often saw possibilities instead of problems, and hope instead of despair. She always had a warm smile and made everyone she met feel uniquely special. Whether through an encouraging word, or a quiet act of kindness, or a simple moment of silence, she had a way of reaching out to all she loved.
Janet is survived by her children, Jeanne (Henry) Kremers of Fairport, Marcia (John) Spoto of Pittsford, Steve (Lori) Miller of Auburn, and Chris Miller of Camillus; daughter in law Carla Dowdle of New Philadelphia, OH; a brother, Rob Hirsh of West Palm Beach, FL; nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold Miller; son Ronald Miller; sisters Katherine Dower and Mary "Monnie" Markert; and brothers Richard Hirsh and Edward Hirsh.
