A couple weeks apart in May, the ribbon will be cut on two major projects at historic and cultural sites in Auburn.
The Schweinfurth Art Center and Cayuga Museum of History & Art will first hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the West End Arts Campus at 1 p.m. Friday, May 2, they announced in a news release.
The campus unifies the neighboring sites at 205 and 203 Genesee St. with new entrances for each, additional parking and new walkways, lighting and signage for increased accessibility. The project was announced in 2018 and ground was broken last May. Its cost of $4.7 million has been supported by about $2.2 million from the city of Auburn's $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.聽

Another project supported by the grant will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, when the Seward House Museum holds a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its rehabilitated barn and carriage house.
The museum has turned the two 1860 buildings on its 33 South St. property into event and staff office space, as well as a new exhibition space for William Seward's carriage in which he suffered his 1865 accident. Ground was broken in October 2023 on the project, which cost $3.1 million. It is funded by $864,000 from the city grant, as well as state and federal grants and private funding.
The two projects are among the last supported by the city grant to be completed.聽
Both ribbon-cuttings are open to the public.
