The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Port Byron man who has been missing for over a month, with his cellphone last tracked to Ohio.
A missing person investigation is underway for Thomas "Tommy" Ivery, 21, Cayuga County Undersheriff Stuart Peenstra told ÈËÊÞÐÔ½».
The last time anyone is known to have heard from Ivery was when a friend spoke with him on Dec. 15, Peenstra said.Â
An investigation into Ivery violating his probation is underway as well, Peenstra continued. A parole officer from the Cayuga County Probation Department gave him permission to travel to Ohio for the holidays on Dec. 20 but no earlier. His phone was last tracked to the city of Canfield, Ohio, where the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office contacted law enforcement earlier this week.Â
"We're far more concerned about his well-being at this point than we are about his violation of probation," Peenstra said.
"We want to make sure he's OK. ... We certainly hope he's not hiding because of that. He could at least touch base with us and let us and his family know that he's OK."
Ivery, a white male, is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 165 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair.
His mother, Lindy Kilbourn, told ÈËÊÞÐÔ½» her son has tattoos on his neck that say "Love Lindy" on one side and "Loyalty" on the other. He also goes by the last names "Kilbourn" and "Hemingway."
Kilbourn called her son "a teddy bear" who would "do anything for anyone." She said she saw him for Thanksgiving and last spoke with him Dec. 14, and he wouldn't go this long without contacting her.
"My son comes over every other weekend," she said. "We're on the phone every day."
Not only has her son's disappearance been extremely difficult for her, Kilbourn said, but people have also been sending her taunting messages, some saying he's dead.Â
"It is hell for me and my family. I have to deal with this every day, not hearing his voice, not seeing his face," she said. "I want my son home."
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with potential information on Ivery's location is urged to call the sheriff's office's criminal investigation division at (315) 253-1610.
