An Ithaca-based nonprofit is proposing a $24 million project to build a 50-unit apartment building in Auburn.
Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services is in the process of buying the property at 197 North St. to construct the three-story building, according to the developer's site plan application that was submitted to the Auburn Planning Board. The board will begin reviewing the application at its May 6 meeting.
The project will include 57 parking spaces, a playground and outdoor spaces for tenants, a smoking pavilion and stormwater improvements.
Lynn Traume, director of real estate development at Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, told 人兽性交 that the building will provide "affordable workforce housing." According to the organization's website, it develops and manages housing that is "affordable to people who have limited incomes and who struggle to find housing they can afford on the open market."
The proposed apartment building will also include units for people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Unity House will provide services to those residents, Traume said.
Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services is seeking funding for the project. Traume said if the applications are successful, construction could begin as early as fall 2026.
The vacant property at 197 North St. is owned by North Brook Farms, which is selling it to Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services. In 2023, North Brook Farms proposed a commercial center聽at the site and a neighboring property, but did not proceed with that plan.
The property was last occupied by Jam-O's Car Wash. After the car wash closed, Prison City Brewing eyed it for its production facility. Ultimately, Prison City built its urban farm at a different location on North Street.
