Like neighbor the Cayuga Museum of History & Art, the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn will change its operations this summer during the construction of the West End Arts Campus.Â
The center will temporarily close its exhibition galleries beginning May 27, the last day of current exhibits "Expanded Vision: Two Centuries of Paintings from the Cayuga Museum Collection" and "Worth Mentioning" featuring Auburn artist Jesse Kline. The galleries will reopen with a new exhibit, "Beyond the Surface: Contemporary Artists and Printed Textiles," beginning Aug. 31 and closing Oct. 20.
While the galleries will be closed this summer, the 205 Genesee St. art center will keep open its clay studio, summer art camp, classes, gift shop and offices. The clay studio will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays through July 13, then close through Aug. 11. It will then be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, Aug. 12 through Aug. 30.

The institutions have touted the roughly $4 million project as a way to increase their presence and accessibility, and to improve the city's western gateway. Construction is estimated to be completed by March 2025.
