An Auburn man pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court on Friday after an Auburn Police Department officer broke his leg pursuing the man last year.
Lawrence A. Atkins, 48, pleaded guilty before Judge Thomas Leone that morning to second-degree assault (a Class D violent felony), Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci said in a news release. Atkins will be sentenced as a second felony offender in October and faces up to seven years in state prison. Grome Antonacci prosecuted the case.
As previously reported by 人兽性交, officers saw Atkins at the Cayuga Inn at the Finger Lakes on Sept. 19, 2024, while serving unrelated subpoenas. Because his presence there violated an order of protection against him by an ex-girlfriend, and because he also had a warrant for his arrest out of Seneca County, officers returned later that night to arrest him.
Atkins began to flee while being handcuffed at the hotel by Officer Anthony Mastropietro. During the pursuit, they turned a corner and the officer hit a metal doorframe, shattering two bones in his lower leg. He was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he underwent surgery. A second surgery was later required.聽
Other officers caught Atkins and arrested him a short distance from the hotel on South Street.
Policing in Scotland will not be 鈥減ut in a detrimental position鈥 because of the cost of Donald Trump鈥檚 visit, John Swinney has said. The US president is due to arrive in Scotland later this week and visit both his golf courses in the country, but concerns have been raised about the policing operation required. The last time Mr Trump visited Scotland 鈥 while he was no longer in office 鈥 substantial protests sprang up. He is expected to meet both Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Mr Swinney during his time in Scotland. All of Police Scotland鈥檚 liaison officers are expected to be required to handle protests during the visit and mutual aid has been requested from other forces.
