Auburn police arrested a man last week for allegedly showing a woman a picture of his genitalia while both were driving.
In a news release Tuesday, the Auburn Police Department said an officer responded to a local gym at about 8:30 a.m. June 3 to speak with a woman regarding a sexual harassment complaint. She told the officer she was driving on Grant Avenue when she noticed that a driver in the lane next to her was staring at her.聽
The other driver, whom police later identified as聽Kevin A. Ostrander, 41, of Syracuse, then followed the woman as she approached Arterial West, police said. She switched lanes and tried to speed up and slow down, but he remained parallel to her with his tan 2014 Chevy Tahoe so that their front windows were aligned.
Police said Ostrander then rolled down his passenger-side window and extended his arm outward, showing the woman a picture of his genitalia that was on his cellphone.聽
After its investigation, the department arrested Ostrander on June 5 and he was arraigned at the Cayuga County Jail. He has been charged with public display of offensive sexual material, a Class A misdemeanor. He was issued an order of protection and released. The department asks anyone who has been a victim or witness of a similar incident, with a similar vehicle, to call (315) 253-3231.
The Justice Department Inspector General has released a harshly critical report about the FBI's handling of investigations into allegations of child exploitation. And this report identifies multiple ways in which the FBI is continuing to fall short in these types of investigations.
