A recent traffic stop in Auburn resulted in two people being charged with drug and weapon felonies, police said.
A Tuesday news release from the Auburn Police Department said the arrests took place Oct. 3 when a vehicle driven by David G. Heffernan, 61, of Fleming, was stopped in the area of Clymer and South streets at about 9:30 p.m. He was immediately taken into custody on an unrelated matter, and found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
A passenger, Beverly E. Wheeling, 51, of Auburn, was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a loaded revolver, police said.
Heffernan was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class D felony) and Wheeling was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a Class C felony) and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class A misdemeanor), police said.
They were both arraigned Oct. 4 and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail at the request of the Cayuga County District Attorney's Office.
Police said the arrests were the result聽of an investigation聽by the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force and the department's Gun Involved Violence Elimination Unit.
