During a press conference Monday, Gov. Hochul said loopholes in the state鈥檚 discovery laws allow for alleged domestic violence offenders to get their cases dismissed when prosecutors don鈥檛 present all case materials in a timely manner.
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said man assaulted a woman holding an infant and left a loaded shotgun unsecured in a home with children.
In a Monday news release, the sheriff's office said that Matthew J. Koziol, 42, hit a woman with a crutch during a late-night argument Sept. 27 in the town of Scipio, "causing significant swelling and pain."

The woman was holding an infant at the time, the sheriff's office said, and deputies also discovered a loaded shotgun that was unsecured and in plain view inside the residence "where multiple people under the age of 18 reside."
Koziol turned himself in later the same day, police said, and was charged with third-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree failure to safely store rifles, shotguns and firearms (all Class A misdemeanors).
He was released on his own recognizance, the sheriff's office said, with an appearance in Scipio Town Court scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday.
