The number of potential teach-out options has tripled in the last few weeks.听
Wells has agreements with 24 colleges and universities, including several in central New York. There are also out-of-state options for students.听
The partners include: Albion College in Michigan; Alfred University; Beloit College in Wisconsin; Binghamton University; Daemen University; Excelsior University, an online school; Hartwick College; Hobart and William Smith Colleges; Ithaca College; Keuka College; Le Moyne College; Manhattanville University; Mercy University; Niagara University; Roanoke College in Virginia; Russell Sage College; St. Thomas Aquinas College; SUNY Brockport; SUNY Cortland; SUNY Geneseo; SUNY Morrisville; SUNY Oneonta; SUNY Potsdam; and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in Pennsylvania.听
The college's accreditor, Middle States Commission on Higher Education, must approve the teach-out plans. The commission, which criticized the college's closure plan, asked Wells to submit the teach-out agreements for review by May 13.听
According to Wells, students will complete a five-step process to transfer to a teach-out institution. It begins with an advising plan detailing the number of credits earned and the number of credits needed to finish their degree.听
Students are encouraged to review their options and submit free applications, then the teach-out schools will contact Wells to obtain documents.
Meanwhile, students should apply for financial aid before making a final decision.听
The closure affects more than 250 students who must transfer to another institution to continue their education.听
For a small number of students, this isn't the first time they've had to transfer due to a closure. Wells was a teach-out partner for Cazenovia College and Medaille University, two upstate New York private institutions that closed in 2023.听
