The State University of New York has appointed an administrator to oversee Cayuga and the state's other community colleges.
Valerie Dent, who served as SUNY's associate vice chancellor and chief deputy for student success, has been named vice chancellor for community colleges. She held the interim title since September 2024, but was formally appointed to the job on Monday.
Dent's responsibilities include advising SUNY Chancellor John King on matters involving the community colleges, such as the implementation of the SUNY Reconnect program. The initiative will provide free tuition to adult learners ages 25 to 55 who are pursuing careers in certain fields, such as advanced manufacturing, nursing and teaching.
Cayuga Community College announced its participation in the initiative in June.
