The city of Auburn has acquired property needed for a project to widen a busy intersection.
According to public records, the city paid $2,100 to buy property at 2 Standart Ave. and $1,100 for property at 204 North St. Both properties are at the corner of North Street and Standart Avenue.
Auburn City Manager Jeff Dygert told 人兽性交 the city bought "a small portion of each property" for the intersection widening project.
"The city generally maintains a right-of-way in front of all properties, which varies in width from place to place depending on a number of factors," Dygert explained. "In this case, based on the goal of improving that intersection through a project to widen the intersection and enlarge the turning radius from North Street onto Standart Avenue, it was necessary to acquire more of the privately owned property than had previously been included in the right-of-way."
Dygert clarified the city did not buy the entire properties or the homes on them, just the strips of land needed for the project.
The city is in the design phase of the project to improve the intersection at North Street and Standart Avenue. The design portion of the project will cost $31,936.99 and is covered by state transportation funding.
The construction is projected to cost $566,000.
According to state Department of Transportation data, average annual daily traffic along that stretch of North Street totals 10,487 vehicles. The average annual daily traffic on Standart Avenue between North Street and Grant Avenue is 7,506 vehicles.
The intersection improvements could support another proposed project in the area. Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services wants to invest $24 million to build a 50-unit apartment building at 197 North St., which is at the intersection of North Street and Standart Avenue.
The project is being reviewed by the city planning board. One of the concerns raised by residents is increased traffic at the intersection where the apartment building would be located.
